yet another downside to the recession

Is anyone else getting really depressed from all the news stories about tragic deaths, homicides, and unbelievable acts of violence that seem to be populating the news more and more. Seriously, like every single day I read two new stories about someone doing something unimagineabley horrible to someone else, usually a family member, and I think to myself "How can anyone possibly thing that's a good idea?"

I know that the recession is obviously a contributing factor, but honestly I don't know how much more of it I can take reading about. Just seeing the headlines it's like "woah! can they possibly mean that? there's no way THAT actually happened!" (turns out it did).

Uggh.

yes. i hate watching the news lately. the natasha richardson thing--though not economy/mass violence related--actually upset me. perhaps b/c i hit my head twice while skiing recently (and i will never ski again). i think the economy is factor in the more general malaise you see out there. i've seen people fight/yell/scream in the street over dumb stuff recently, and i think that's economic strain induced.
